The Royal Conservatory of Music announced late Friday afternoon that Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov’s anticipated only Canadian tour stop scheduled for March 28 at Koerner Hall, has been canceled.

Trifonov’s publicist, Glenn Petry stated that Daniil Trifonov had to postpone the Toronto recital due to a lost passport, which could not be replaced in time. “Daniil’s management is already in discussion with the Royal Conservatory to find a make-up date, which will be announced as soon as possible.”

The RCM said the “last-minute travel logistics issue was beyond his control […] forcing him to withdraw […] He is truly disappointed…”

The Conservatory confirmed they are working hard to reschedule the recital for the upcoming 2017-18 concert season. Ticket holders are being offered a full refund or exchange.

Trifonov is currently in Philadelphia tonight to perform at the Kimmel Centre, and will be heading to Chicago on Sunday to perform at the Chicago Symphony Centre.

The Tchaikovsky Competition Gold Medalist first made his Toronto debut in 2013. Trifonov’s last appearance in Toronto was in January 2015, with violinist Gidon Kremer.
